I will define the $\ell$-adic sheaf corresponding to a Gauss sum over $\mathbb{F}_p$ and use this to determine the magnitude of the Gauss sum. This talk will be accessible to those who have taken some of the comp classes (511, 518, 525, 530); in particular, no sheaf theory will be assumed.
